Thomas McGuire, Principal
Bishop McHugh Regional School
With a talent for connecting with
people, and an expertise in the fine details of educational excellence,
Principal Thomas McGuire is at the helm of Bishop McHugh Regional
School. Whether it’s conceiving a new program to help students reach
their greatest potential, or setting up extra support for those who need
the help, Mr. McGuire dedicates the time and attention necessary to
help others succeed.
He comes to Bishop McHugh School from
Jersey City, where he served as Assistant Principal of Our Lady of
Czestochowa and Little Harbor Academy. In that role, Mr. McGuire
provided leadership to motivate and inspire 55 faculty/staff and
enhance the educational environment for 400 students. He led the
professional development program, and served as mentor, coach and
trusted point of contact for teachers and staff.
As an educational administrator in
his previous positions, Mr. McGuire monitored performance data and
proposed solutions to improve outcomes. He defined and implemented
curriculum strategy for preschool. In addition, McGuire provided K-8 students
with rigorous and engaging courses in STEM, Project-Based Learning
(PBL) and other content areas. He also improved capabilities of first-
and second-year teachers by coordinating new teacher induction programs,
and serving as an accessible point of contact for coaching and
Prior to being a principal, Mr.
McGuire served as an assistant principal, teacher leader, elementary and
middle school teacher, athletic coach and trainer.
Mr. McGuire holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Elementary Education and a Master of Arts degree in Educational
Leadership from Rider University. He has a State of New Jersey
certification as a principal, supervisor, teacher, and EMT, along with other professional certifications and credentials. He is a member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Mr. McGuire is also a frequent
lecturer. He has presented nationally for a variety of organizations on
topics such as curriculum, instruction, matriculation, and
health/safety. His presentations have included STREAM through the lens
of Project Based Learning, Understanding by Design, and Safety and
Medical Issues in Catholic School Education.
